Natural reduction of hexavalent chromium
Did you know?
WebElectrochemical reduction of the hexavalent chromium compounds, a serious environmental pollutant and carcinogen, to a nontoxic Cr(III) species is of significant research interest in interdisciplinary areas. Due to its high oxidation potential (1.36 V vs RHE) and associated surface fouling problems with organic-electrocatalyst systems, … Hexavalent chromium is a constituent of tobacco smoke. Hexavalent chromium was released from the Newcastle Orica Koorgang Island ammonium nitrate plant on August 8, 2011. The incident occurred when the plant entered the 'start up' phase after the completion of a five-yearly maintenance overhaul. The "High Temperature Shift catalyst began the process of 'reduction'" where steam passes through the catalyst bed and out the SP8 vent s…
Web1 de jun. de 2024 · Conclusions. The reduction of Cr (VI) by gallic acid, as a model natural polyphenol, was studied for initial Cr (VI) concentrations 19–100 μM, pH range 3–6, and temperatures 15–35 °C. The reduction was found to follow a 2nd order kinetics with respect to Cr (VI) concentration in the pH range 3–5.
